Academic Programme

Our academic programme is built on the principle of "learning through play" — the most effective and natural way young children develop cognitive, social, and emotional skills. Every activity is intentionally designed to stimulate curiosity, build confidence, and foster independence.

The programme is CAPS-aligned for Grade R learners, covering all required learning areas including language, mathematics, life skills, and creative arts. Younger learners (pre-Grade R) follow a structured developmental programme focused on school readiness.

Our pre-primary is registered with the Department of Social Development and maintains the highest standards of early childhood education. A qualified social worker and occupational therapist form part of our support team, ensuring every child's holistic development is monitored and supported.

Activities

Creative Arts

Drawing, painting, clay modelling and collage work develop fine motor skills and creative expression. Learners participate in themed art projects throughout the year.

Music & Movement

Singing, rhythm activities, and movement games build coordination, language skills, and a love of music from an early age.

Story Time & Language

Daily story time and structured language activities in both Afrikaans and English lay a strong bilingual foundation for the dual-medium primary school.

Outdoor Play

Supervised outdoor play on dedicated play equipment develops gross motor skills, social skills, and physical confidence in a safe environment.

Mathematics

Hands-on number activities, patterns, shapes and sorting games make early maths engaging and build a solid numeracy foundation.

• Notify the school before 09:00 if your child will be absent
• A written note or medical certificate required on return
• No appointments during school hours — please schedule after school
• No classroom visits without prior appointment via office

Our History

1995

Onze Rust Pre-Primary is established — opening its doors with just two classes and 60 learners, under the leadership of a small but passionate team.

2002

The primary school undergoes a major merger between Uitsig Laerskool and Onze Rust Laerskool, creating the unified institution we know today. The pre-primary continues as its own proud arm of the school.

Growth

Over the years, the pre-primary expanded from 2 classes (60 learners) to 6 thriving classes serving 182 children, driven by growing demand and an outstanding reputation in the community.

Today

Under ECD Manager Chezél Claassens and Deputy Reinette Augustyn, Onze Rust Pre-Primary is a registered, award-winning early childhood centre with a qualified social worker and OT on staff. It remains a cornerstone of the Onze Rust family.
